Special Admission Programs at UC Riverside

UC Riverside recognizes that quality students come from all walks of life and all manner of educational backgrounds.  If you've been home-schooled, we have programs to assist you in your admissions process and in your transition to UCR (Homeschooled or other Non-Traditionally Educated Students should look at the Non-Traditional Admission section of the Paths to Admission area for more information).  If you are a transfer student or a high school student considering attending community college before going on to UCR, you may be able to secure guaranteed admission to UCR through our Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program.  And for high school students with a distinguished academic record, our Guaranteed Admission Program can help you make the most of your opportunities here at UC Riverside.

Transfer Admission Guarantee

Ensure your admission to one of the top-ranked universities in the country. UC Riverside's (UCR) Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program allows eligible students to study at a California community college and have a guarantee of admission to UCR from the time they start at the community college.

How TAG Works

You can make an appointment to meet with a UCR Transfer Counselor to discuss both your eligibility to the University and your eligibility to the TAG program. As a community college student and TAG participant, you receive course-planning assistance from a UCR Transfer Counselor. When you complete the provisions of your TAG contract, we guarantee your admission to UCR. In person, by mail, or by e-mail, we make it easy. Are you unable to meet personally with a UCR Transfer Counselor? Simply download and complete the printer-friendly Evaluation Form at www.uctransfer.org and then mail it to us along with copies of all your community college transcripts if you have completed any course work.

The Transfer Admission Guarantee is available for all majors.

TAG Eligibility

No minimum qualifications are required to receive a TAG contract. The only requirements are for what needs to be complete at the time of your admission to UCR. For a list of those requirements please refer to the www.assist.org website. Go to "agreements between UCR and a community college" for all major specific requirements.

To receive the TAG contract:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident or AB540 qualified. International students are also eligible to receive a TAG contract.
  • All your course work must be completed at a California community college. Although UC Riverside accepts course work from other colleges and universities, we write TAG contracts for students with course work taken exclusively at California community colleges.
  • Meet with a UCR transfer counselor or UCR representative.

To guarantee your admission to UCR you must:

1. Complete at least 60 semester (90 quarter) UC transferable units with the required GPA for your specific major before transfer.**Lower Division transfers also accepted (see UCR counselor for details).

  • Achieve a minimum 2.4 GPA for majors in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (other than Business Administration).
  • Achieve a minimum 2.5 GPA for Business Administration and completion of all required courses necessary to satisfy selection criteria as outlined on www.assist.org.
  • Achieve a minimum 2.8 GPA for majors within the Bourns College of Engineering and completing the Engineering selection criteria as outlined on www.assist.org or on the Bourns College of Engineering website at www.engr.ucr.edu/Transfer2009-2010.html
  • Achieve a minimum 2.7 GPA for majors within the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and working towards completion of the equivalent of UCR's Calculus series 9a-9b-9c.

2. Maintain good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) during your last full-term of attendance before transfer.

3. Submit your UC application during the appropriate filing period as indicated on your TAG educational plan.

4. Apply for your contracted major* and for your contracted term.

* If you plan to change your major after approval of this contract, you must contact a UCR recruitment counselor, STEM counselor or representative.
